The Boathouse History

The Old Boathouse building in Coleraine, Northern Ireland, has a rich history dating back to the 19th century. Originally constructed as a shelter for fishermen and their boats, it played a crucial role in the fishing industry along the River Bann. Over the years, the building evolved to serve various purposes, including a storage facility for fishing equipment and a social gathering spot for locals.

The Bann Rowing Club – which occupies the ground floor of the Boathouse building – was founded in the late 1800s, the club quickly became a hub for rowing enthusiasts and competitive athletes alike. With a focus on promoting the sport of rowing and fostering a sense of community among its members, the Bann Rowing Club grew in popularity and prestige over the years.
